Motor Bridge UK
Privacy Policy

Last updated

Effective from

14 September 2026

Applies to

motor-bridge.co.uk and its website-based tools

Please read this policy carefully. It explains how Motor Bridge UK Ltd collects, uses, shares and protects personal information when you visit our website, contact us, subscribe to updates, use our Fuel Finder or EV Charge Point Finder, or follow an advertising or affiliate link.

1. Who we are

Motor Bridge UK Ltd is the controller of personal information covered by this policy. We are a company registered in England and Wales under company number 17294314. Our registered office is Office 1, 24–26 Izabella House, Regent Place, City Centre, Birmingham B1 3NJ, United Kingdom.

Contact: enquiries@motor-bridge.co.uk | Telephone: 0121 816 0075

2. Scope of this policy

This policy covers the Motor Bridge UK website at motor-bridge.co.uk, including the Fuel Finder and EV Charge Point Finder, website forms, newsletters, comments where enabled, analytics, advertising and affiliate activity.

It does not cover the Motor Bridge Virtual Garage mobile application. The app has a separate privacy policy describing app-specific processing, including vehicle and document storage, account features and notifications. Third-party websites, apps and services reached through our links are governed by their own privacy notices.

3. Personal information we collect

Information you provide directly

Contact and correspondence details, such as your name, email address, telephone number and the content of your enquiry.

An email address and related preferences if you subscribe to a newsletter or marketing update.

Details you choose to include in a website comment, review, survey, competition entry or other form, where those features are available.

Any other information you voluntarily send to us. Please do not send special-category or highly sensitive information unless it is necessary and we have asked for it.

Information collected when you use the website

Internet and device information, such as IP address, browser type, operating system, device type, language, approximate location derived from IP, referring page and timestamps.

Website activity, such as pages viewed, links clicked, navigation, interaction data, error reports and security or diagnostic events.

Cookie, local-storage and similar identifiers, together with consent choices. Optional technologies are used only where required consent has been obtained.

Affiliate and advertising information, such as a click identifier, referring page, campaign, conversion or commission status. We normally receive attribution information rather than the full details you give to the retailer or service provider.

Finder-tool information

A postcode, town, place name or other location you type into a finder.

Precise or approximate latitude and longitude if you choose the browser’s current-location feature and grant permission.

Search settings such as radius, fuel type, maximum price and other filters.

A randomly generated pseudonymous visitor identifier stored in your browser for each finder, plus search counts, timestamps and technical error data.

4. Fuel Finder and EV Charge Point Finder

The finders need a search location to return relevant results. If you type a postcode, town or place, we process it to identify coordinates. If you select current location, your browser asks for permission before providing coordinates. You can refuse or withdraw browser location permission and enter a place manually instead.

Finder searches are sent to Motor Bridge’s website server. The server may transmit the search coordinates, radius and relevant filters to the data, mapping or geocoding service needed to answer the request. Normal website and server logs may also record the IP address and request details.

Pseudonymous usage identifiers

The Fuel Finder and EV Charge Point Finder each create a separate random browser identifier in local storage. The current keys are mbff_anonymous_visitor_id and mbecf_anonymous_visitor_id. These identifiers help us count use, understand repeat use in aggregate, maintain the service and diagnose errors. They are not a Motor Bridge account number and are not intended to identify you by name. They remain in the browser until you clear site data or the browser removes them.

We do not use finder searches to follow your movements or create a personal journey history. However, pseudonymous information can still be personal data when it can be linked with other information, so we protect and describe it in this policy.

Data sources and onward links

Fuel Finder results use information made available through UK Government Fuel Finder services and associated technical integrations.

EV Charge Point Finder results use Open Charge Map data. That data may include operator details, connector and status information, pricing or access notes, and community-supplied comments or images.

Maps, place resolution and directions may involve third-party mapping or geocoding providers. If you select an external directions link, the destination provider receives information under its own privacy policy.

Availability, accuracy and completeness of third-party location and price data are controlled by the relevant provider, not by Motor Bridge. Do not include personal information in a search field beyond what is needed to identify the location.

5. How and why we use personal information

UK data-protection law requires us to identify a lawful basis for each use. Our principal purposes and lawful bases are set out below. Where we rely on legitimate interests, the interests are operating, securing, improving and funding a useful motoring website, answering users and measuring performance, balanced against your rights and expectations.

If we need to use personal information for a materially different purpose, we will assess whether that use is compatible with the original purpose and provide additional information where required. Where consent is the appropriate basis, we will ask for it.

6. Cookies, local storage and similar technologies

We use essential technologies to operate the website and remember privacy choices. With your permission, we may also use analytics, personalisation, advertising and embedded-media technologies. Our consent banner allows you to accept or reject non-essential categories and change your selection later through the privacy settings available on the website.

Our Cookie Policy identifies the technologies and providers currently configured on the website, their purposes and available durations. It should be read together with this policy. Browser controls can also delete cookies and local-storage identifiers, although blocking essential technologies may affect site functions.

7. Analytics, session insight and embedded content

Subject to your consent where required, we may use services including Jetpack Stats and Microsoft Clarity to understand visits, page performance and how users interact with the site. Session-insight tools may record clicks, scrolling and navigation. We configure these services for website improvement and do not intentionally ask them to capture form-field content containing personal or sensitive information.

Pages may include Google Maps, YouTube or other embedded content. Loading or interacting with an embed may allow its provider to receive your IP address, device information, page details and its own identifiers. Non-essential embeds should remain blocked until the required consent is given.

8. Advertising and affiliate links

Motor Bridge is funded in part through advertising and affiliate relationships. Current integrations may include Google AdSense, Awin, Sovrn and Amazon Associates or related advertising services. When you view or select an advertisement or affiliate link, the provider and destination merchant may receive identifiers, click details, the referring page and campaign information. If a qualifying purchase or other action follows, we may receive a commission and attribution record. This normally does not increase the price you pay.

Personalised advertising, cross-site measurement and other non-essential tracking are used only after the consent required by UK law. Rejecting optional tracking does not stop all advertisements or ordinary links; ads may be contextual and a retailer can still process information you give it directly. Motor Bridge does not receive or control the full payment and order information collected by an external merchant unless this is expressly stated at the point of use.

We do not operate as a data broker and do not sell personal information for cash. Some overseas privacy laws use broad definitions of ‘sale’ or ‘sharing’ that can include ad-tech disclosures; the website’s consent controls are the primary way to manage optional ad-tech use.

9. Who we share information with

We may disclose relevant information to the following categories of recipient, only to the extent reasonably necessary:

Hosting, content-delivery, security, maintenance and technical-support providers, including IONOS and other suppliers supporting our website infrastructure.

Website functionality and analytics providers, which may include Automattic/Jetpack, Microsoft Clarity, Google services and providers used for forms, email or newsletters.

Finder-data, geocoding and mapping providers, including UK Government Fuel Finder services, Open Charge Map and mapping or directions providers used by the current tools.

Advertising, consent and affiliate providers, including Google, Awin, Sovrn and Amazon services where currently enabled.

Professional advisers, insurers, auditors, accountants and legal advisers.

Courts, regulators, law-enforcement bodies, tax authorities and other public bodies where disclosure is legally required or reasonably necessary to protect rights, safety or security.

A purchaser, investor or successor in connection with a proposed or completed sale, merger, reorganisation or transfer of all or part of the business, subject to appropriate confidentiality and data-protection measures.

Suppliers acting as processors may use personal information only on our documented instructions, subject to contract, confidentiality and security obligations. Some providers act as independent controllers for their own services; their privacy notices explain that processing.

10. International transfers

Some service providers and their infrastructure are located outside the United Kingdom, including in the United States and other countries whose data-protection laws may differ. When UK personal information is restricted from being transferred, we use an available legal safeguard such as UK adequacy regulations, the UK International Data Transfer Agreement, the UK Addendum to approved standard contractual clauses, or another lawful transfer mechanism. You may contact us for further information about safeguards relevant to your personal information.

11. How long we keep information

We keep identifiable information only for as long as necessary for the purpose collected, including legal, tax, accounting, security and dispute-resolution requirements. We consider the amount, sensitivity and risk of the information when setting retention. Current general periods are:

Record

General retention approach

Enquiries and ordinary correspondence

Normally up to 24 months after the matter is resolved, unless a longer period is needed for a complaint, claim, contract or legal duty.

Newsletter and marketing details

Until you unsubscribe or consent is withdrawn. We may retain a minimal suppression record so that we respect the request.

Finder browser identifiers

Stored in local storage until you clear website data or the browser removes them. Related pseudonymous or aggregate usage records are retained only as needed for service measurement, security and troubleshooting.

Security and technical logs

According to our hosting and security schedules and no longer than reasonably necessary, except where an incident, investigation or legal requirement justifies longer retention.

Analytics, advertising and consent data

According to our configured settings and the periods stated in the current Cookie Policy or provider information. Consent evidence may be kept as needed to demonstrate compliance.

Financial, affiliate and legal records

Normally up to six years after the end of the relevant financial period or transaction, where needed for tax, accounting or legal purposes.

We may permanently anonymise information so that it is no longer personal data. Anonymised and aggregate statistics may then be retained for longer. Third-party providers apply their own deletion and retention arrangements to information for which they are controllers.

12. Security

We use proportionate technical and organisational measures designed to protect personal information from accidental or unlawful loss, alteration, disclosure or access. These include access controls, secure transport where supported, software and service maintenance, backups and supplier oversight. No internet service is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a personal-data breach is likely to create a risk to people, we will assess it and notify the Information Commissioner’s Office and affected individuals where the law requires.

13. Your data-protection rights

Depending on the circumstances, UK data-protection law may give you the right to:

ask for confirmation that we process your personal information and receive a copy of it;

have inaccurate information corrected and incomplete information completed;

ask us to delete information in certain circumstances;

ask us to restrict processing in certain circumstances;

object to processing based on legitimate interests and object at any time to direct marketing;

receive certain information you provided in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format and ask for it to be transmitted where technically feasible;

withdraw consent at any time, without affecting processing that was lawful before withdrawal; and

complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.

To exercise a right, email enquiries@motor-bridge.co.uk and describe your request. We may ask for information needed to confirm identity and scope. We normally respond within one month, although the law permits an extension for a complex or numerous request. Rights are not absolute and we will explain any lawful refusal or limitation. There is ordinarily no fee, but a reasonable fee may apply to a manifestly unfounded or excessive request where the law permits.

14. Marketing choices

You can unsubscribe from an email newsletter by using the unsubscribe link in the message or contacting us. You can change optional cookie and advertising choices using the website privacy settings and can also clear browser cookies or local storage. Withdrawing marketing consent does not prevent service or administrative communications that are genuinely necessary.

15. Automated decisions

The website does not make decisions about you based solely on automated processing that produce legal effects or similarly significant effects. Finder results are automated information services based on the location and filters supplied; they do not make eligibility, credit, insurance, employment or comparable decisions.

16. Children

The website is intended for motorists and people seeking motoring information; it is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly seek personal information from children under 13 through the website. If you believe a child has submitted personal information without appropriate parental or guardian involvement, please contact us so we can assess and, where appropriate, delete it.

17. External websites

Our website contains links to retailers, advertisers, affiliate partners, maps, data sources and other third parties. Selecting a link may allow the destination to know that the visit came from Motor Bridge. We do not control the destination’s collection or use of information, and this policy does not replace its privacy notice. Review the relevant notice before providing personal or payment information.

18. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the website, tools, suppliers or law change. The latest version will be published on this page with a revised ‘Last updated’ date. If a change materially affects how we use information already collected, we will provide an additional notice or seek fresh consent where required.

19. Contact and complaints

Questions, requests and complaints should be sent to Motor Bridge UK Ltd at enquiries@motor-bridge.co.uk, by telephone on 0121 816 0075, or by post to Office 1, 24–26 Izabella House, Regent Place, City Centre, Birmingham B1 3NJ, United Kingdom.

You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). Information about making a data-protection complaint is available at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint/data-protection-complaints/. We would appreciate the opportunity to address your concern first, but you are not required to contact us before approaching the ICO.
